This year, Indonesia is honored to have BioLocate shortlisted as Top 20 Finalist and invited to present in MobileMonday Peer Awards 2009 in Barcelona. The team from BioLocate unable to make it to Barcelona due to the short notice, but they are managed to make a short video presentation and was playbacked in front  of the jury in Barcelona. Although BioLocate did not win, I am happy that we are the only representative from South East Asia to make it to the final.

BioLocate at Peer Awards 2009

BioLocate at Peer Awards 2009

The Mobile Peer Awards is a wonderful event, attended by estimated 1000 audience and was opened by keynote from Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Markets at Nokia and Member of the Nokia Group Executive Board. We have audience from all over the world, including developers, startups, venture capitals, media, and government officials. I met a big team from Malaysian MDEC, but unable to find anyone else from Indonesia (or Indonesia government :) … well, maybe next year we’ll send official invitation).

For those of you who would like to know how the finalists “wow” the jury during Peer Awards, I would like to share a video of Unkasoft, one of the audience favorite doing all the tricks (including “Tiger Jump”) to visualize their solution within the strict 3 minutes pitch. Enjoy!

Congratulations to PT BioLocate Indonesia with the application FIREANTS which passed the first round of MobileMonday Global Peer Awards. A total of 163 entries submitted from around the world which has now been shortlisted to 43 nominees, including the Indonesia’s bioLocate, and other heavy weight contenders such as aka-aki (Berlin), fring (TelAviv), Getjar (Lithuania), Mocospace (Boston), Nimbuzz (Amsterdam), Palringo (London), SoonR (Silicon Valley), and WorldMate (Atlanta). The jury are now sitting in to select the top 20 finalist which will be invited to do a live presentation in Barcelona on February 16, 2008 in front of international audience.

The competition for top 20 are quite tough, however I’m quite confident bioLocate can steal jury’s attention as the idea is quite unique as compare to the others. Who need more IM client? We want something new, innovative and relevant to our mobile life. And I put my vote behind bioLocate! BTW the top 20 list will be announced on January 26, 2009 (Chinese New Year!)

To Pak Dien, Pak Hindra & bioLocate team. Congratulations from MobileMonday Indonesia Team!
I am sure to see you in Barcelona!

The upcoming event, the first ever to be held in Asia, will be co-located with the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT 2008) conference to be held in Kuala Lumpur next year.

MobileMonday recognizes that majority of future innovations in the mobile development happens in small companies. Typically these start-ups don’t attend conferences and seminars as they are expensive and offer few opportunities for new comers. However, one of the central features of the MobileMonday Global Summit is that it also invites selected leaders and prestigious influencers from industry giants to join the discussions and networking. This ensures the discussions are valuable, interesting, and always inspirational.

MobileMonday has the following global objectives:

  • To encourage innovation within the mobile sector.
  • To facilitate networking between small and large companies, and between local and foreign organizations.
  • To help local companies effectively participate in international initiatives through the import and export of visions, concepts, technologies, know-how and best practices.
  • To present innovative visions, trends, studies and forecasts from the mobile marketplace.
  • To facilitate and create partnerships.
  • To contribute to the education of the broader public through its publications, online presence, and media partnerships.

The MobileMonday community is a grassroots living laboratory of ideas, demos, pilots, benchmarking, and business development. The goal is to enable the membership to meet with their peers in order to encourage smart ideas to develop into commercially successful products and services.
