I know this is late (pretty much occupied by some stuffs including following enthusiastically the US Election result)… but nevertheless, the slides for October 2008 (Touch the Opportunities in Touch UI) is ready at our Google site: MobileMonday slides. Just look at the bottom part – the October slides.

If I may recap the event: let’s develop applications, there are a lot of opportunities local & global on S60, S40 and S60 Touch - Forum Nokia is ready to support you, developers!

First, Kenny Mathers – Head of Developer Relations explained the breadth of Forum Nokia programs available for developers. He also mentioned that possibility to install applications are important factors now in handset purchase (good news for developer!).

He also highlighted the Calling All Innovators program which is open now until MWC Barcelona February 2009. A good number of interesting prizes are available for innovative applications, and not to mention the business opportunities.

Then Sumire Furuya – Developer Relationship Manager Forum Nokia APAC – shared the success story of Try4Free – Nokia’s download service embedded in every Nokia mobile phones (let’s say a mini application store). There are 1.3+ million trial applications downloaded per month, and 5%-9% of the downloads are converted into purchase. Interestingly: Indonesia contributes to about 1/3 of application downloads and purchase in South East Asia market.

Talking about popular applications, Sumire told us that the top downloads/purchase are:

  • Personalization (including Theme, ringtone)
  • Personal productivity
  • Utilities (including security application)
  • Travel and Language related application
  • Office applications
  • Games

Finally, Nicholas Foo – Head of Technical Services & Consultancy SEAP, showcased the cool Touch UI device (Nokia 5800): touch-based interface, sensors and accelerometers, wide & bright screen…. nice….

That’s all for now!
